First of all, it really saddens me to think that people truly believe that we will never run out of oil. That is a dangerously naive approach to take. Secondly, I would like to think that we will pull through with new technologies and alternative fuels. There have been major turning points all throughout history where "periods" have ended and new ones began because we turned the corner into new possibilities. I think we are on the brink of another big change.

Well my theory is that oil is making certain countries very rich and while there is still some left naturally the powers that be don't want anything else to somehow replace it and that ideas re solar power, steam and other things (ethanol??) that would be able to be more strenuously developed are not at the top of everyones' lists and I wouldn't be surprised if individual inventors have been paid off for not pursuing their brilliant brainwaves at better ways of devising fuels that don't need oil, petrol, whatever. When the oil runs out don't worry there will be other and maybe better ways to run our cars etc. and there already are.

The worlds oil supply may be seaming to get lower, but know that the industry has already lots of back-up resources. I work in the field and I know that we are finding better ways to use our resources. They are better for the environment and cheaper. It will take time and trust me in a few years I will guarantee you a new fuel. It's out but the world is not all aware of it. Times are changing you are right. But don't be afraid. Just because all of the scientific efforts are not publicized does not mean we are well on our way if not already ahead of it.

Well my dear fellow, that is rubbish. There's enough oil at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico and in the tundra in Alaska to keep the kettles hot for a million years according to science. So go have another cup of warm tea. Liberals want us to believe we're running out "in their life span". Liberals are not happy fellows unless they have something to be unhappy about or piss and moan about. They are a negative sort, you know. They raised the fear in people that the computers in the whole world were going to STOP at midnight when we reached the year 2000. If memory serves me right it is 2007 and mine is still running on the same operating system I had then. So there! They also claimed Saddam was "uncatachable" because he had so many places to hide. Rubbish I said. Turned out his own relative turned him in! So have another cup of warm tea and stop worrying about the oil supply. All their rubbish will do is motivate people to become "green" and begin finding ways to use replaceable energy. I'm sure they will also find something wrong when that happens. They're never happy you know.

The only sound you are hearing is the laughter from the middle east and Venezuela as they watch the world squirm for their abundant oil. We don't NEED their oil. We have plenty of our own if the environmental wackos would allow us to get it. God forbid a gnat should die if we drill or create more nuclear power plants.

Your premise is wrong. There is no evidence to indicate a low lever of crude oil. In fact there are new discoveries all the time.

That being said, I believe that the price of fuel will drive technology to replace it. As with other things that have diminished, the marketplace always finds a solution. A few good examples are whale oil, whale bone, buffalo skins, rubber, coal, wood, water power from dams, etc.

Funny- 'cause that alarm gets pulled every few years and has been since the 70's.

Anyways, to reduce dependency upon foreign oil, we should push hydrogen technology and screw this "hybrid" crap. What a waste of time, money and resources those things are!

We run around screaming as chaos ensues, while a choice few of us run their cars on vegetable oil, solar power, hydrogen power cells, or ethanol. And there will be Republicans still vetoing bills for alternative fuels and trying to push oil at $10000 a barrel.

It sounds all the time. Every 15 years or so. Then they find more. It drives up prices and causes wars (which make money).

Nothing new.

Nothing can beat record profits, except cutting down production, raising prices, and loosing only a small portion of sales.

*Oil shortages allow them to cut production costs, and raise prices. Which makes them big loot.
