If it only takes 1/30th of a second for human conciousness to recognize an image for what it is, e.g. a picture of a banana, a bicycle, a tree, whatever...AND an image shown any faster than that will not be perceived as anything other than a flash of light...then what is the meaning of the memory of your life?

I am neither atheist or theist. Your entire existence is only possible through the use of memory. Recognition of sensory input is the heart of separation and the first step to the creation of an 'outside world'. The thing that you are doesn't require memory of 'your' experiences as it is spontaneously moving and changing naturally by way of an inherent intelligence common to every living organism. The 'you' you are using to experience the world is a construct pathologically using memory to continually regenerate itself diametrically to the world it experiences through sense.
Memory is all 'you' are.

What on earth has atheism got to do with our memories? And this thing about your life flashing before your eyes before you die - how on earth do we know? As far as I am aware the religious and the atheist have similar brain functions (no I am not going to try and get cheap laughs here!) and if I do get a story of my life before it all goes black and I am no more then that will be just fine.

The same amount as yours is. What is all the hubbub about atheists in this forum? At least the questions could ask something about HOW we came to be atheist, or WHY we have no faith, or WHY we rely on reason instead of faith, or what is the basis of a life without faith.
Anything but the silliness that keeps coming across in these questions.

you are speaking of recognizing images from a scientific point of view and if so we all see the world around us in the same way, doesn't matter if you believe in god allah budda or the trees... and how you live your life, what meaning you give to it or to your memories it doesn't depend on your religious beliefes... in the world today you can easily be a catholic and not have any human interest for those who suffer or in need of help, or you can be an atheist and send medicines in africa... nowdays is not religion that makes the difference, but society... the only advantage on you belivers is that you think you will live after death, couse i don't see miracles anymore and not even flashlights... as an atheist i have my beautifull memories, my morality, integrity, stupidity, selfishness as any other catholic or any other religios man around the world, i only accept reality as it is and i don't go searching for miracles when miracles for me or people who suffer don't arrive...
exuse my english...

The meaning of memory?
A survival tool.
And a very handy one at that. I haven't touched a scalding hot clothes iron since my brother dared me to when I was 5.

What? I am an atheist and want to try the drugs you are taking. I have wonderful memories of my life, none have anything to do with a fictitious and murderous absentee god.
