Oh, I remember them well! They were trading stamps that our you would collect when you went shopping. We used to love to paste them into the little books and then Mom would redeem them for trinkets from a catalog.

I remember S & H green stamps well. When I was in high school in 1960, I worked for a super market that gave out the stamps. You got so many for every dollar spent. The city where I worked then, had a redemption store, that always was busy. I think most people got their toaster and coffee pots there as well as other items. The stamps as well as the books are part of Americana and just have a little value as a collectors item or for nostalga. Thanks for bring back some fond memories of my youth.

I got a lot of my kitchen gadgets with my "green stamps"!! Mixing bowls, a mixer, a blender, ice cream maker.

Depending on which stamps a store gave away was where you did all your major shopping. There were the S&H Green Stamps, Gold Bond, Plaid, etc.

Mostly it was a sales gimmic to get customers coming in and staying with the store.

Really sad day when all the "collection stamps" went away. Hard to save for unnecessary stuff now.
