NO I think you would be fine cause is Like Elaine except an a at the end instead of the e. Very cute name by the way I like it.

It's actually quite likely. There are just so many forms of that or very-similar names -- Elena and Alana (most common, I believe, both in the top 200), Elaina, Alaina, Alanna, Alannah, Alena, Alina, Elaine, Eliana, etc. -- that there's no telling which spelling/pronunciation most will instinctively assume.
Ps. Alaina is MUCH more common than Elaina. Generally, both Elena and Elaine are considered to stem from Helen/Helena (which is why the Elena spelling is far more common than the Elaina elaboration mentioned here), while the A forms are technically separate names related to Alan. Hopefully that helps explain why Elena and Alana are most common, with Alaina just behind them. ;)
You can find the etymologies and meanings here: http://www.behindthename.com/ and popularity rankings (for the states) here: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OACT/babynames/ if it helps.

Elaina is more common but people will spell it the way they've seen it. Like if their friend's name was Alaina or Elaina..

Well, I know a few would. But people mispell things all the time. My name is Abby (short for Abigail, but I just go by Abby), and I've had it spelt Abbie, Abbey etc. If you pronounce it Eh-lane-uh instead of Uh-lane-uh, I think people will probably spell it right, since they are almost two idfferent names. If someone spells it wronge, just say, "it's with an E".

I've always thought of the name Elaina spelled with an E, and I don't think I've ever seen it spelled with an A. I don't think it would be a problem... Best of luck!

Alaina is not always a form of Elaina, considering Elaina is "E-laina" and Alaina is "Uh-Laina". My daughter is named Alaina, and I did not intend for it to be a misspelling of Elaina; its a name by itself.

people will mispell anything! However, I think "Elaina" is more common than "Alaina". Most people I know with that name spell it "Elena".

To be honest, I would normally spell it like Alaina. But if I knew your child and was well accustomed to her I would make sure I spelled it right every time.

It depends on how you want to pronounce it. Ay-lane-uh would get you Alaina (although probably not with that spelling) and Ee-lane-uh would get you Elaina.
