Why don't you ask, why democrats have a problem with gay people ?
All of the democratic presidential candidates are against gay marriage.
The two front runner republican candidates are personally infavor of gay marriage.
You have noticed, all the " liberal " states, banned gay marriage, just like the " conservative " states did.
The only federal anti gay law ever passed, by passed by a Democratic president.
Gasp, imagine that. !!!!!
So start looking beyond the rhetoric, and look at whats really happening.
And you will find, Gay marriage isn't a conservative issue.
Most americans are against gay marriages.

I'm a life long conservative and one of my best friends is gay. I have no problem with any one because they are gay. And I used to play darts with an old manager of mine at a gay bar up in Lake Tahoe. Shoot I worked in Hospitality for years and you will find an inordinate number of gay men working in that industry all the time.
You are confusing people's faith vs. their politics. Truth be told, if you looked at the actual numbers of people who voted against same sex unions and the like you will see the % is usually better than 50%. Now if you consider that there is generally speaking a 50/50 split with conservatives and liberals you might notice the numbers don't jive. The fact is a large number of "liberals" or "progressives" are voting against same sex marriage.
There are a number of liberals who disapprove of same sex marriage, the numbers prove it. And not all conservatives are opposed to it; I and a number of other posters on here prove that.
Many people from both political spectrums are either influenced by their personal faith of their personal prejudices. It has very little to do with their actual politics.

I am all for equality, Gay rights are among them, the issue is state conveniences, such as tax laws and death benifits. If this wasn't the case, the pincapel's of morality would be the least of concern with homosexuals, cause what people 'think' about them is problably not in there mind when considering loving sombody. But because it is an issue of the state, and the Mass Media, allows fag's (pun) like Neo-Con Uber christans, to blair there message of hate over the air waves?
Would the issue be similar if it where against the law for black people to marry?
black, white, strait, gay, whats the differnce?
and if you can't tell sombody that they can marry who they want, than how can you tell them, How many than can marry?
Pandoras Box, but my questions are valad!

The Republican party does what it takes to keep the religious right wing voting for them. The religious right wing voters are who get them voted into office, and they are against gay marriage and well anything condoning homosexuality.
BTW these are not conservatives, but neoconservatives. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-conservative#Distinctions_from_other_conservatives
Real conservatives are like who Hubris above me said Ron Paul, Hel I do endorse him. The only thing I disagree with him on is health care, but he is a doctor who delivered over 4000 babies so his opinion holds merit. However I think he is wrong in thinking that others in the health care industry will be as generous of a doctor as he was, giving patients reduced prices and even a few free services for those who couldn't afford it.
I hope J.P. sees and answers this question....

To be honest we actually like lesbians - at least the hot one in our fantasies - not like the butch ones wearing baggy jeans and flannel.
But the gay thing is just kinda gross. As a straight man the idea of two men doing it just turns me right off.
But conservatives don't want to stop them from doing it. What we are really saying is that a gay relationship is not at the same level as a heterosexual one. A legitimate function of government is to sustain future generations. Biology class should have shown you that while attractions and love can be there between same-sex couples - God, nature, or blind chance designed men and women as the only way to procreate. This is not just an American thing. All cultures at all times have set up family structures this way. Even those with significant homosexuality like ancient Greece - they wanted to have sex with boys - not marry them.
So if two gay people want to live together - enjoy it. Just don't come to the rest of us and demand that we view the relationship as just as legitimate as a straight one.

Same reasons anyone has a problem with gay people. Mind their own business? If only that were true. Instead you see them with their parades, making out on television, all this "gay pride", I personally find that incomprehensible.
I must say, I am very disturbed by the mere idea of two gays raising children. I'm sexist here, I admit, but I find the idea of two male gays raising a child to be particularly alarming. It just goes against the very foundation of the family unit.
If it were just about two people of the same sex loving one another, I really doubt too many reasonable people would have a problem with gays. Unfortunately however, gays have created their own little counterculture, which largely, and proudly goes against everything conservatives value and stand for.

I'm conservative, and I have no problems with Gay people. I do have a problem with people telling me that I have to think a certain way about them. I would just rather see them as normal, every-day human beings; instead of being force-fed a line of bull that they warrant special rights and protection. Understanding, of course, they all ready have rights that protect them, why more. More over, I don't want to hear that because I do not agree with them that what they are doing is natural and okay, that I am hating on them.
Conversely, I hate it when Christians balk and scream that the ten commandments are displayed in public...who cares. So I believe it is a two way street, with trash piling up on both sides. Essentially, no one's s**t doesn't stink.

For those saying that Gay people want special rights. That is simply not true - what we want are the rights that other married people have. Why is there a problem with granting these rights to people of the same sex that want to start their own family? Not allowing gay couples the same rights as married couples makes gay couples second class citizens and that simply is not fair!

Up until you got to the point of having families, I'm with you... assuming that the gay(s) are not trying to demand my blessing on their lifestyle...any more than I would be happy if a heterosexual S&M couple would flaunt their lifestyle in my face...or for that matter some jock bragging on his many conquests. Keep it in the bedroom and I have no problem with you.
But I have the same problem with gays raising a family as I do a single parent raising a family (not counting widows, divorcees, but a "never married"). There is too much evidence that kids need a MALE and FEMALE influence in their lives (preferably as a husband and wife) to grow up with the best chance of a healthy personality and the ability to establish healthy relationships.
Adults are WAY too wrapped up in THEIR desire to raise a family and don't give enough consideration of what is best for the child. That's just selfish.

It's the religious conservatives who do not like the fact that liberals are shoving "love the gays" down everyone's throats. Just look at all the gay perverts marching in parades with dog collars, chains, and whips; it is disgusting. Really, we have to have some standards for behavior, or society will fall apart. Read the bible and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.
All societies must have rules, we can't have a functioning society where any kind of behavior is acceptable. You are fine with homosexual sex, and with them raising families. Other people are not.
Should we allow adults to have sex with children or animals? Why not? Everything goes right? Some societies allow adults and children to have sex. In Mexico, the age of consent is only 12! As long as the gays kept in the closet, they were okay, but shoving their behavior in other people's faces caused a backlash.
