Why do you get to come up with the punishment?

Telling your mother to shut up was an act of defiance and disrespect (and you know it) and so she should determine your punishment, not you.

You are not the adult, even though you are supposed to be learning to act like one.

I'd saying losing your phone is a great punishment. You don't know how to talk properly to your parents so why not take away your talking privileges (i.e. phone) until you can learn respectful speech?

None of the alternative are good enough for the disrespect you've shown your mother. However, since you seem to value your car so much, I'd start with that, I'm sure riding the bus to school would teach humility.

The cell phone is another thing I'd take away, you were defiant and disrespectful in talking to your mother, you should have the cell taken away.

You're 17, you want to be an adult, act like it, this little "shut up" gets you in serious trouble in the adult world.

My punishment would have been to have to walk around school with no teeth in my mouth if I would have told MY mom to shut up. But I assume she didn't knock your outs.. so I would have to say that since your car "can't" be taken away, that the only place you would be able drive it is to school, to work, then back home... for at least 2 weeks.

I'm sorry, but punishment is punishment. If your parents want to take away your phone as punishment, then they can... if it conflicts with your plans, then oh well. How do you think people lived way back when with out cell phones? It's possible.

Tell her to take away TV for 2 weeks. Even if you dont watch alot of tv list off shows you like and shows you used to like and be like if i couldnt see the new episodes of that, id never get to see them till re-runs and that would kill me.

I say that to my mom(when Im really angry) and my mom threatens to do something but never does.

People shut-up isnt bad, no matter who its said to. She may be a teen and that maybe her parent and news flash they are both people and I think that people should be able to let them know they are annoying each other, inside of the child having to grin and bear it.

Party planning is not a state of emergency...you'd be wearing that phone if you told me to shut up...so..your mother is a saint!!
