Here's my recommendations based on the almost 20 cruises I have been on, including all over the Caribbean.
The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM. So take swim wear, shorts, sandals, beach shoes, your snorkel equipment if you have it, sun glasses and sun screen, lotions, a cap or big hat for the sun, a book if you are a reader, your music player, sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym, good walking shoes, your camera, and other personal toiletries. Take a warmup suit and/or light jacket for days when its breezy.
Your cabin will have towels and soap provided, including pool and beach towels. It will also have a generic hair shampoo so you do not need to bring that unless you like a specific brand. They do not provide tooth paste, mouth wash or lotions. They DO provide a hair dryer.
After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports or resort casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, (like a bank employee), shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc.
Most cruises have a formal night or two when you can wear your best stuff and get pictures taken, and maybe meet the ship’s Captain. The formal nights are REQUESTED not required attire. But most people do dress up in a tux for men and a long dress (any color) for women. Some men just wear a suit and tie and some women wear a nice dress but not a gown. You will not be denied access to the dining room or anything else if you choose not to dress up.
- Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage. Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and your clothes that you sleep in.
- Cruise lines charge a lot (about $15 to $25 per photo) for the photos they take so take your own photos around the ship when you get the chance, especially on the formal nights. Take your own camera and ask other passengers to take photos for you, they generally are very willing.
- If you can take a six-pack of bottled water and soft drinks in your carry-on for your cabin. You will have to pay for both on the ship and its nice to have those handy in the cabin.
- If you are taking your cell phone, MP3 player or other item that needs to be plugged in take an extension cord as the plugs in the cabin are generally not in the best places and there are usually only one or two.
- Take a small bottle of hand sanitizer. There are generally sanitizer dispensers at the entrances of restaurants, the buffets and dining room, but some times the are not there or not working. The sanitizer helps prevent the spread of the Norwalk Virus that sometimes occur on cruise ships.
The two main attractions in Jamaica are Dunn's River Falls and river rafting on the Martha Brae. You should be able to get tour tickets for either on your cruise ship; or book on line before the cruise. You may also be able to get a tour to these places when you get to Jamaica. But be very careful who you book with and go with a group. Do not go off on your own in Jamaica, its not always safe to do that.

If you go on a 7 day cruise, you will probably have 2 formal dress nights for dinner.
The cruise ship should be comfortably air conditioned, but have a jacket or sweater just in case you need it..The deck may be a bit cooler at night.
For daytime,Bermuda shorts, pants, cotton sleeveless dresses, ..skirts and tops you can mix and match with you pants.
Sandals, tennis shoes and a dressy pair of shoes for you formal.
For your formal night you can wear a cocktail dress, formal long dress, or a dressy pants suit. You can always dress up a simple black dress.
Do not forget your bathing suit, and if you want a long informal skirt wrap or a top for cover up.

What to take... These are what I am thinking of now; as I think of additional things I will email them to you.
1. whatever medications[asthma inhaler etc.] you are on and small stuff like painkillers and few bandages in case u get a scrape or something.
2. You can take a few snacks that you like just in case you are somewhere and you do not like what is available or there is no food available...like on a tour or late in the night.
3. Do not change your money because in the resort areas US currency is accepted everywhere; maybe you could get like 1000 Jamaican worth of change just in case which would be around 15US dollars - you can get it at the airport.
4. Insect repellent (some of our mosquitoes are immune to it, though)
5. Sun glasses
6. sunscreen
7. toothpaste
8. comb/brush, nailclip
9. toothbrush
10. body lotion, deodorant
11. Your camera and film - if it is digital remember the charger or batteries.
12. soap etc. are generally already there... give me the numbers and names of the hotel you are staying at in Negril and I will check what is provided and figure out what you might need in terms of hygiene things. Riu should have everything.
13. Underwear
14. extra clothes, you will be here for a while but you don't need to take a lot as you can have your laundry done weekly or so. also bring something not-too-casual just in case you are going to a restaurant or other place that has a dress code.
15. swimming trunks
16. swiming things like towel etc. and rubber water shoes.
17. you can take candy to give away, but not too much
18. debit card [in case u need it], most machines in the resort area will issue US dollars. in other places you will have to enter the jamaican equivalent.
19. a small bag to take things around in, get one that can organize your things well so u don't have to dig around and possibly lose something important.
You will have a lot of options for watersports etc. while in Jamaica. Here are a few websites...

You'll definitely need the cruise tickets, proper documentation to get back into the country, essential medicines, cash, and a credit card. Do not pack these items; keep them with you.
The cruise lines all have guides on their web sites suggesting what to pack. It's real easy to overpack; take only what you know you'll need. Allow for the T-shirts, etc. you plan to buy. Many ships have laundries aboard if you need it.
Having said that, rarely mentioned items I've found useful are:
- small bills for tips and on-shore purchases where you can't or don't want to use a credit card
- sun screen, bug spray, antacids, and aspirin
- travel mugs
- a bed sheet for beaches where you can't or won't rent chairs
- print-outs of your pre-trip research possibly including port maps, phone numbers of places you plan to visit, and internet coupons.
- bubble wrap for liquor purchases
For things to do, check out the "Port of Call" board for Jamaica on Cruise Critic.
Have fun!

WooHOO!! I went there for my HS graduation!
The cruise hit Cozumel, MX (no so exciting), Grand Camen in the Camen Islands (BEAUTIFUL), and Jamica. Being that it was in the summer, we went snorkling, and took some of the island tours. The cruise ship will have suggestions on what to do on each port.
Edit: forget those guys that say ppl get raped on cruises. I was 18 when I went and had the time of my life! I do agree that the street vendors are very aggressive, and they also have their kids pan-handling so that you feel sorry for them - DON'T!

Jeans, shorts and T shirts are really not the appropriate attire for dinner onboard a cruise ship unless you are just going to the buffet. If you are going to the main dining room, I would recommend slacks and a polo or button up shirt. You will feel out of place if you go to the dining room in shorts and a t shirt or even jeans because 99% of people follow the requested clothing for dinner. If you want to be comfortable in your t shirts and shorts, call room service or go to the buffet.

cute hat
awesome shades(sunglasses)
sunblock
oh and bring like a couple of big cotton tshirts for bumming around in. those come in handy when you get sunburnt

i guess most of it depends on your personal style. have fun on your trip.
