How about instead of sending soldiers, let us send teachers, instead of war, knowledge? How about sending moderate Muslim teachers, who do not agree with violence, to these countries? These kids of the Islamic extremists are being taught at school that blowing yourself up is ok. I have no problem with Islam but I do have a problem when radicals misinterpret the religion and use it to kill. Instead of waging war on them, we need to reach out to the next generation of kids. They are seeing people, who they think are doing the right thing, being killed by us. They are seeing us destroy their homes and country. On top of this they are being told to hate us. This problem will never end if we fight it with war because once those kids become adults, they will never change their opinions. Let us show them that we are peaceful and worth listening to. Then let us show them that we are not trying to convert them. Let them practice Islam but teach them violence is not ok. What do you think?

As I'm reading some of these responses,
it becomes obvious that, STUPIDITY has become '''epidemic''' in America!
Mostly among CON'S.

Their(cons) hatred and racism wouldn't allow them to learn and educate themselves before opening their mouth and make Acc off of themselves.
Which they usually do, regardless!

They're so far from reality and their heads are so deep up their.......that, the only point that feeds their ego, racism and hatred is that, to Muslims rest of the world are infidels and if not converted must be killed and BS's and craps like that!!

As, there're NO radical Christians!!!
They're way worse than radical Muslims.

So, IF these kinds pull their cheeks apart and bring their heads off of their Acc's and get a touch of reality also put aside their arrogance, racism, hatred and willing to understand, thus there'll be a great chance to stop the violence.

Once, every one realizes that, Islam is not the problem, America is, every thing will be solved.
Just review the history and see it for yourself that,
When, how, why conflicts ALWAYS started!

ADD: reading some of these responses make you realize that, some of these people here are unbelievably ''hopeless'''!

You know, it would be wonderful is we could all live in peace. This is a very noble goal worth ... fighting for. I think everyone wants to live in peace, live in happiness. I read this article on Onion once that satired the Iraq situation, with a title like "Study Finds out that Iraqis feel pain and mourn the loss of their loved ones." All of us are humans who generally want the same things. But whenever you have injustice then peace becomes very hard to sustain.

I think that we need to understand that Islam has rules of war, and terrorism is not allowed in war - killing women and innocent civilians is not allowed.

By the way, who told you that "violence is not ok?" When the Nazis invaded Poland and other countries, and later when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, did the US President say, "well, we should talk this out and be diplomatic instead of going to war, because violence is not ok?"

So the fact is, war is sometimes needed, right? A nation has the right to defend itself. And war is violent.

So I was saying in the beginning that whenever there's injustice peace is difficult to sustain, if not impossible. Well, look at the double-standard the USA has with regards to the Israel-Palestine conflict - the USA is turning a blind eye to all of the injustice and crimes that the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians. The Israelis have put up a huge wall in Palestine that divides the Palestinians into many enclosed sections, and they force the Palestinians to go through many tiresome checkpoints just to go to another Palestinian city. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a major issue where Muslims see the US as being the unconditional ally to Israel, and supporting what amounts to a de facto apartheid state, not a democracy as Bush would have you believe.

Also, the USA is supporting a lot of despotic and unjust rulers in the Middle East - this causes a lot of hatred towards the US also - the USA supports the royal family in Saudi Arabia, and the Egyptian President who recently had a joke of an election that was supposedly "democratic." So the US is supporting some governments that are unfair and have many human-rights issues on their hands.

And I can positively say that the majority of Muslims do not hate America and America's good values that agree with what they believe, but what they hate is the actions of the current administration, and its support for Israel.

And lastly, I want to say that any terrorists who kill innocent civilians and do it "in the name of Islam" are violating the rules of Islam. Please see the link I referenced, which explains it better - please look at misconception 7, which I linked. I hope this helped a little bit, have a good evening.

I appreciate your sentiments. I think the most important thing to stop violence is to intervene for at-risk children. Neglected and abused children grow up to perpetuate what they know, unless and until someone steps up and makes a difference in their lives. I know from painful experience that a religious home (and many can attest, a religious school) does not mean one is free from neglect or abuse. When we as Christians take seriously the command to take care of the fatherless and the widows, we'll see a decline in violence. It's not about making school more religious, but actually walking the talk that will change the world.

Idealistically - yes.

Practically - no.

What thin-skinned teachers and loving people can you send into an embittered land of decay and violence?

A US soldier was just gunned down (the day before thanksgiving) while he was handing out toys to children in Baghdad... it was only 4 days after he had been sent over there.

I think the best thing to do is get out ASAP and let them kill eachother... that's the quickest way to end their kind of fundamentalism... let them "martyr" themselves into oblivion.

Hey - it's working on Christians... what religious group claims the largest number of US war casualties?

Muslims see the terrorist activity as a movement of in which Islam dominates the world according to the Quran. That's why there's so much Arab studies in schools all of a sudden. They think it's fulfilled prophecy, so the "moderate" Muslims don't want to interfere. My college campus recently had an Anti-Zionist wall dipicting how "evil" the Jews are. This is a Christian country and we should fight to defend our values and the Jewish people.

We cannot really tell them what types of teachers to employ much less fix their problems in that region. The best way to teach is by example , middle eastern kids growing up around invasion and war will create a new breed of uber terrorist.

Yes,right after teaching the majority of Americans about Islam. Also teach that majority what perpetuates the terrorism.

We are showing the Muslims that America is a good country in Iraq. We are friggin paying in big time to give them a stable country - we give them clean water, and a better infrastructure. We could have just left the situation after Saddam fell and let them all go to hell. But we didn't. We are showing by actions we give a crap about them by making sure the country doesn't go to hell.

Alot of these muslim terrorists are brainwashed and are hopeless, just like a friggin mass murderer serial killer in the USA that will not hurt society only if they are locked up.

The 9-11 highjackers were treated well during there stay in America, they probably made friends in college, and even went to a strip club before 9-11, and they still decided to murder/incinerate 3000 people.

Teachers might help for muslims on the fence, but as far as the radical muslims, it would be like giving a mad dog to the "Dog Whisperer" and expecting great results.

On the idea that education is more powerful than destruction, we agree. After that....

First of all: Sending OUR teachers to teach THEIR kids how THEY should behave seems like a good way to grow their anger and hatred toward you by leaps and bounds. I know people in this country who are already angry that their kids are learning "liberal" ideas (you know, like science) in public schools. Imagine if the teachers were provided by someone elses government!

Second: You keep saying "They" Who are you talking about? Iraq? Saudi Arabia (where 15 of the 9/11 hijackers were from)? The entire middle east? Would you also include the muslim countries in the far east? (Wow... that's a lot of teachers).

Lastly: The flaw in your thinking is highlighted in your last statement. You seem to believe we have the power to "Let 'them'" practice their religion. What would you think if someone from another country said they'd "Allow you" to practice Christianity (or whatever your religion is)... and they actually thought they were being open minded by saying such a thing? You'd be incensed that someone would have the stones to assume they could prevent it (as would anyone)!

Cute idea but get back to reality. These are the same people who believe that 75 virgins are waiting for them after they blow up a bomb. We can't negotiate with them. They're not interested in getting an education from Western countries. Besides, moderate Muslims do not speak out against the Islamic extremists. Silence is the same as condoning.
