he's probably a little overrated, some people take everything he does as gospel.
but he's not a joke, anyone who denies his status as a legend, whether they feel him or not, is kidding themselves.

I honestly don't like jay-z at all with the exception of Heart of a City (Ain't No Love) because it features my favorite soul song of all time which is Ain't no love (in the heart of the city) by Bobby "Blue" Bland and Lost Ones. I've seen Homeboy's video and all they are is him driving expensive cars, his own private island, drinking Crystal Champagne by the gallon and kicking it with a lot of wealthy white people. That's something I cannot relate to, His music is tight, I give you that, I got to pay the devil his dues, but as far as Jay-Z the person, I don't like him and tries to show he is rich to damn much and ruins it for me. I am from the ghetto of Los Angeles and sippin' Crystal and piloting a boat in the middle of the bahamas or having a large pent house in the middle of New York city, is just something I can't do. And I know that you might say that all rapper is that, but remember Bone Thugs N Harmony? They sometimes showed they were rich, but just to demostrate that they made it, but in some way, they show that they still keep it real and relate to a more general audience that comes from a sh*t hole in the wall city. Listen to the music an you can feel it.

People really need to stop sayin stupid shyt bout Jay. I don't understand how people don't like him. I mean some ppl just dumb and don't realize wat real music is. Other ppl caught up on that Tupac stuff, I have nuthin against tupac but ppl really didn't start callin him the best rapper til after he died. A lot of people now caught up on dat Lil Wayne shyt. I mean he good but, like Jay said"you cant compare Lebron James to Micheal Jordan"[ jay being Micheal Jordan] and the rest of the people are haters and don't know shyt. The only person that ppl can argue about bein better than Jay is Biggie
And to the dude who made the comment about when he was in History class:

Umm...let me see if I can recall what went down....Jay-Z held it down for 8 summers...sold a whole bunch of records, made a whole bunch of money, gets to fu*k the hottest chick in the game, retired and came back to do all the above all over again.

he's a nobody that's only known by most his fans as " hey that's that ridin dirty guy"
only on his 2nd album with only 1 platinum and his 2nd got sooo much praise for being "profanity free" i agree with 50 cent chamillionaire should just make gospel music :)

Well...I wont say Jay-Z is over rated...but back when I was younger...real hip hop heads werent really feeling Jay-Z...especially some of the stuff that came out AFTER Resonable Doubt like 97-2000...Im not comparing the two...but there were Jigga basher back then....Just like there are Wanye bashers now...
I was in college then...and Jay-Z was definately not cracking then...I have always liked him...but I respect SOME of the peoples opinions who think he is overrated...

I could go on for a minute with the breakdown on why Jay is NOT a lame, or overrated or any of that, but I won't because it;s not necessary.
his lyrical and business genius is obvious and that's why people feel it necessary to make stupid / false statements like that. You don;t even have to like the dudes music, but you CAN NOT deny he is all he's hyped up to be.

I can't see how anybody would think he's a JOKE! Let me tell you, that man came from the streets straight outta Brooklyn(Marcy PJ's), he's in that era where most cats didn't make it to see the age he is now. The average age for a Black man(especially those who were in the drug game) in these streets was 18-30(No Lie).It's a BLessiing that he's still alive- and can put all those accolades under his hat.So, for anybody to say he's overrated or a joke really don't know what they're talking about--

the thing is, people who dont like jay-z say he is overrated, simply because they dont like him...which is fine, but dont take away everything he's accomplished by saying he's overrated, which in any case sounds dumb to me..his accolades are too deep

Sound like she doesnt know much about hip hop...Your on point with this.@ Da one...I dont understand your dislike...Like you said its the same with other rappers...The example you gave with Bone is the Same as what Jay is doing...I mean he made streets is watching...but his first too albums was a story pretty much. His very first video was around the way in BK...But how do you make it and still talk like you from the streets thats not real. Rap has always been braggadious...That why his last album didnt do well because ppl wanted him to still spit iggnorant lyrics like the song mocks on the AG album...but I respect your opinion.word up
