What are the advantages to having your own propane tank as a source for gas rather than the gas company?

There isn't an advantage. People who have propane have it because they can't get utility gas. Propane is more expensive than gas, you have to maintain the tank, and you run out if your not careful. If you get to choose then go with the gas company.
