An engine block can crack from rapid temperature changes (for example when cold water in put into an overheated cooling system). The block can also be cracked by the catastrophic failure of a rod or rod bearing, which can actually put a hole in the engine block!

Freezing water in the block can also crack the block!

On the left side of the keyboard (<<<<<< that way) there is a key that says Caps Lock. Please hit is before you post again so you are not typing in all capital letters!

Engine overheated, expelling water and steam, then someone in a rush to get back on the road put "Cold" water into the radiator

Hmmm...freezing weather, lack of coolant, sudden extreme change in temperature, collision

90% of the time, it is caused when the coolant freezes. It will usually crack around the core plugs. Hope it helps
