Better yet don't use sand at all.

The floor of the terrarium should be covered in reptile carpet, or newspaper, but not sand. Leopard Gecko’s have a tendency to eat sand, which becomes impacted in the gut and often leads to death

If its a baby, don't use sand.

If its an adult, you can see how it does on an ultra-fine reptile sand. I don't like calcium sand, as it cakes up when wet just like cement.

A healthy, well hydrated gecko can live on sand just fine. I keep all my dune geckos and frog eyed geckos on sand and have never had a problem with impaction.

Good choice. Any of the sands they sell for lizards would be good but the calci sand is less likely to cause problems. I have mine on Austalian sand and she's doing very well.

Sand, especially calcisand is a major cause of impaction in reptiles. Leads to a lot of deaths. Use non-adhesive shelf liner, reptile carpets, or paper towels.
