My partners bday was today and I was in the same boat! Christmas is coming, I have a large family to buy for and travelling to do! Also, we are expecting our first child in March, so we have to think about that as well (lots of first time purchases, reduced income, etc.).... Here is what I did, he said it was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for him!

In total I had about 8 smaller gifts (i.e.: a pair of Sorel's he's wanted his entire life; a guitar stand ; a gift certificate to Blockbuster in a basket with Nibs, Popcorn, and Coke, etc.)

I started off by making a little card (they were all really corny/cute) and tying it to our puppy... she runs into the room every morning to wake him up (I get up about 15 minutes before he does! lol). It said the following:

"You have been the perfect daddy to me
Thanks so much for teaching me where to poo and pee!
I really want to show you my love by helping out mommy!

Hop out of your warm cozy bed and come to mine."

And in her cage were the Sorel boots with a new card that read:

"Un-chewed and just for you!

From a warm and cozy bed to a warm and cozy place for your BIG STINKY FEET!
Now what’s the first thing to cross your mind as you awake (after wow! mommy is sooooo beautiful!)? – WE NEED TO EAT!

Let’s grab a bowl for your cereal! "

Basically it took him on a treasure hunt throughout the house and garage and cute little memories tied into them (like

"I’ve never had a man before who brought music to my ears!
That first magical moment is forever in my heart
Your sexy voice and guitar talent nearly brought me to tears!

Go to where you sang and played that first song for me."

Long story short, it shows that you do care about the person, and you are able to incorporate a lot of sweet memories into the gift. It also shows that you put a lot of thought into it.... haha sorry for the lengthy explanation - it was fun though!

On her birthday...Put the kids to bed early. Order in a whole dinner from a gourmet shop having it delivered, buy some nice candles, placing around the living room. Serve her the dinner, with some nice wine, put some beautiful romantic soft music on and ask her to dance. Tell her that you love her very much and that she has made you the luckiest guy in the world and from the living room, make your way into the bedroom for a night of romance. You can buy her a nice bottle of designer cologne...I can suggest a few. Oscar de la Renta, Vera Wang, Romance by Ralph Loren..These will cost about $45 to $60. She will be wowed. So the dinner will be maybe $45.00, candles $5.00, and cologne $45.00 so for $100 you will really give her a beautiful birthday without breaking the bank. Good Luck

Send the kids to grannies or not. Rent a movie like how to lose a guy in ten days or some other romantic comedy. Send her to the store and have her a bubble bath ready when she returns with some nice loose clothes to put on. Set her down to watch a movie with some nice finger snacks. If the kids are there they can be in the chair or floor and you two on the couch with a blanket to tease each other under. Just make a nice easy do very little day for her. I am sure you can figure the rest of you evening.

Send her out for a facial and while she's gone clean the whole house and order a nice dinner or take her to dinner-or something nice and thoughtful like that!My husband took my truck to the car wash and totally cleaned it out and put some nice smelly stuff in it and a box of fancy chocolate on the drivers seat and I didn't know until I got in it-but hey I am a suckker for those little things

a tru romanic ey kev. just like my fellow. we are not too well off so planning nice romantic thins is not so easy. for my birthday my fiance booked a reastaraunt. it was fantastic. when we arrived we weretaken to a candle lit table with a bottle of rose house wine it was georgeous. he gave me a prezzie before we ordered. it was a body oil kit with instructions and a feather. when we got home after a lovely meal we went home for me to find out that my mate had been round, lit candles in the living room and there was gentle music on a cottle of wine and some chocs. we ended up snugglin on the sofa watchin a horrer movie, drank the wine and binge on chocs. ill leave to your imaginaton what happened with the body oil. hope i have given you some ideas

If you can afford it- hire a sitter- take her to a nice meal- maybe see a movie.

If your budget is even tighter than that- take care of the kids- get them to bed early- cook for her, rent a movie- give her a nice back rub.

I'm a wife and mom- I'd be perfectly pleased with either of these options.

Get a baby sitter and take her out to eat and spend the evening at home. Light some candles.

You could just arrange a candlelight dinner at home with flowers and music. You could also draw her a nice bubble bath. She will love it its the thought that counts.
