I really try my hardest too... but some times it's not the easiest thing to do. I always put my friends before me, and care more about them then myself... but sometimes it's hard when I'm going through something really ruff.. and it's even harder if I'm trying to help my friends out with something that I don't agree with... I help people for a living. I manage a small charity for older people. My small team and I do all we can to provide advice, practical help and a host of enjoyable social activities to improve the quality of life of older people. It is very gratifying (sometimes stressful) work.

Well that depends what it is.
I try to help others as much as possible, but quite frankly, I don't want the cruddy end of the deal all the time.

I used to but I need to help myself first so that I can better be able to help others. If I'm a mess then I have no business helping anyone.

Of course. You get more satisfaction from helping others first. And you always get your reward in the end

It kinda depends who it is I guess but I want to say that I like helping myself first, but I know it doesn't always go down like that.
