My son's friend is named Haven. I thought it odd at first, but now that I've gotten used to the unusualness of it, I think it fits him. He's a really good kid. He has a little brother named Joven. I don't know what the middle names are.
Maybe you could give some family name from your mother-in-law's side as a middle name to appease her somewhat? Unless of course her family is full of Bufords, Elmers, Murvilles, etc.
I know you can't tell me your last name, but be certain that the last name is strong and goes with it. No one's ever going to use or even know his middle name, really. Unless you register him in school as "Haven-James" instead of "Haven"
Edit: Geez, after reading all of these comments, don't people realize that the cool names are becoming less and less masculine/feminine? Look at Cameron, Dakota, Devon, and YES Hayden! All names for boys AND girls now! Hayden Panittere anyone? Not everyone wants the old Peter and John anymore.

Use it as a middle name if you like, but not for a first name.
Pick a simple strong first name like Roger so that he is not made fun of from the kids in school.
Roger Haven is different enough that he will stand out as not having an every day type of name, but different enough that he won't be made fun of in school.
Just remember except for diplomas and other such documents people don't use middle names and that would be good for him and make his life easier by not being teased.

So what is the strong middle name? Haven does sound more of a girls name. Don't worry about your mother, it's your son

Haven seems ok but you might want to give him a more of a man name for a middle name. no offense intended. It just seems like a name a boy would be made fun of about at school or something.

Haven itself sounds like a better middle name than a first

Haven sounds more of a girl's name. Haven as a middle name could work with a strong name first.
Some other ideas for a name could be Blake Carson, Ryan Michael, or even Garret Bryan.

Honestly....you should listen to your mother. That's not a very masculine name and even if you put a strong middle name with it....he will be teased in school when the kids find out his true name.

Really?
I guess Sanctum was already taken.
And what's the strong middle name, Levee?
You're not naming a dog, your son will grow up into a man, true?

I like it...but say his name over and over out loud...to make sure it sounds good...with the middle and last name too...even say it backwards...thats what I did with my kids and Ive never regreted what I named them. Your mother will get over not liking his name, let her come up with a nickname for him...something like the BIG H! lol As soon as she sees her lil grandbaby, it wouldnt matter if you named him BOOGER...she'll shill love him. Congrats on your baby! Happy Thanksgiving.
