Hi, I am a student outside the United States. Visiting the colleges' websites I found something about "matriculation date" and I really don't understand what it is... Would you mind helping me?

It refers to the date one will be admitted into a university, college, or other higher level place of learning.

The word matriculation derives from the Latin "matricula," which means list. So, a matriculating student is one who is put on a list of enrollees. By the way, this same word is related to the word matrix and both ultimately trace back to the Latin word "mater," which means mother. It's not surprising then that a college graduate often refers to their matriculant school as their "alma mater," or nourishing mother.

It's the date of enrollment or registration at the university for a degree. Some students are non-matriculated, which might just be taking courses out of interest and not working towards a degree.
