Your keyboard driver needs an update, the keyboard you are using should have come with an install disc that will fix the problem. In the meantime, try switching to a generic keyboard driver in the control panel.

Looks like you may have chosen the wrong keyboard layout when you installed. Not sure which one you wanted, but it sounds like ou mixed up a Dvorak and QWERTY keyboard. There may be localization settings in Control Panel, though I'm not sure.
The U.S. Default keyboard layout looks like this.
qwertyuiop[]
asdfghjkl;'
zxcvbnm,./
Not sure exactly what the European standard keyboard is, but I know it is different.
You do NOT need to buy a new keyboard, but you might have to re-install.
Good luck.

on installation of XP you go through a section setting up languages.. did you miss the tab for the keyboard settings.
you might get away with changing this in your regional settings in your control panel.

First, unplugging keyboard, plug it back in, then reboot.
If that is the only thing wrong, your keyboard may not be compatable with your computer tower. Altho that rarely happens, I have seen it before. You may need to replace your keyboard, if the problem persists.

That is really strange.... I would try updating the driver for your keyboard in devmgmt.msc (do this by going to start>run and typing that).
