"The playing of loud music on most forms of public transport is already regulated or prohibited by law.
For buses and coaches, the relevant regulations states that 'Passengers shall not play or operate any musical instrument or sound reproducing equipment to the annoyance of any person on the vehicle or in a manner likely to cause annoyance to such a person. A person who breaches this regulation may be removed from the vehicle by the driver, inspector or conductor, or (at their request) by the police, and may be liable to a penalty not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale (£1,000). Similar regulations are in place covering the rail network and London Underground.
The Government does not believe that any further regulations are required."
Yet chavs can still regularly be seen lurking at bus stops/park benches or their most regular haunt - the back of the bus - blaring out music at a ridiculous volume (invariably what they call "Rap" and "R'n'B")...
WHEN WILL IT STOP?

it'll never stop. lol you can get stoned on the top floor of manchester buses just by breathing!
these days you could ask some kid to turn their music off and end up with a blade in your stomach. not worth it is it?

Never unless conductors are back on bus routes, which will never happen as this would reduce profit of companies.
On the other hand bringing them back would give people a sense of security and may reduce such nuisance problems for other users thus increasing users and profits might rise.
The main reason I fear is fear. Fear that to approach someone causing a nuisance might result in an assault because for far too long such things have occurred and if detected minimum sentences given. No as far as buses are concerned my first statement is a woeful fact.

" to the annoyance of any person on the vehicle or in a manner likely to cause annoyance to such a person"
Pretty much this means somebody has to report it. It will never stop because people's levels of tolerance differ, and what is annoying to you, somebody else may think is pretty cool.

Well, I told you about the person on the bus didn't I? I asked him to turn it off - he refused. So I insulted his music. He ignored me, and then when I went to get off the bus he said "I don't give a **** about you". So I told him that it was mutual. He repeated himself, in as menacing a fashion as he could. So I repeated myself likewise. Unable to comprehend this, he lunged at me and started to repeatedly pound on my head. So I fought back (quite well I might add) and he decided to stop and get off. Then as he was walking down the stairs I kicked him in the back. He just walked off! So, there you have it - that's what these people are like.

This is interesting. A spot of current English culture. Seriously, for those of us across the pond, what is a "chav"?
