If it's down the street, how often do you pick up your mail? I've noticed the some of the new complexes have one big mailbox on the road. My son has one like that. When I ask him or his wife if the received something I mailed a week ago, they haven't seen it... because it's still in the mailbox!!!

It's always baffled me why your mail isn't delivered direct in through your doors like here in UK, and after reading some of the answers, I really feel for you having to trundle to boxes to get your mail, it must be awful having to do that when your full of aches and pains, and even dangerous in icy cold weather, I don't mean to sound like I'm rubbing it in, but all I have to worry about is the dogs eating the mail off the mat and eating it before I get to it lol....but then again, if it's bills I don't mind, shame dogs are colour blind, I could have taught them just to eat the brown envelopes....lol

The post office is down the road a mile or so. They don't allow home delivery in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. It's a resort development and mailboxes might harm the pristine image (sarcasm intended). They have begun installing cluster boxes, but after all this time it's just too much hassle to change the address on everything. Pay most bills on-line so don't care if the mail ever gets checked. But the other person living in the house is rabid about mail, so mine always appears anyway. Whatever happened to the good ol' postman?

That is something I have never seen over here. The front door was for guests, and they would be led into the lounge, a room usually used by the parents in the evenings. Kids forbidden. Our access was to walk around to the back of the house and enter there, into the kitchen. As a rule the front door only could be opened with a key from the outside, and a turn button on the inside, so it was always locked. The back door was always unlocked and as far as I can recall, not even locked overnight. The origins behind the turn 21 and get the key of the door is vague, but the context was that once you turned 21 you received the key to the front door, and could come and go as you pleased, a sign of adulthood. That was the concept I lived with in the numerous houses I lived in as I grew up.

Mine is over the bridge at the post office. I live in a condo with boxes clustered. Our boxes are fed from the back and the carrier has a hard time getting mail into the right box so I just have it all go to P O. box. I pick it up about once a week unless there is something coming that I'm anxious to get.

Hi Granny, My mail box is 1/2 mile down the dirt road to the one and only road that goes through our town. It is a famous row of mailboxes that is photographed all the time!!

Our mailbox is a cluster mailbox just down the street in our
complex. We pick up our mail every day. Sometimes we
wish it didn't even come.

My mailbox is about 1/4 mile away. Although there are houses all the way down through here, they won't deliver it to the door because we're at the end of a dirt road.

Right outside my door, but being a former mail carrier, let me say that we wish they were all out at the curb, so we could drive the route, or in a cluster box as many new developements are doing. I do also have a PO box & pick that up every 2-3 days. My uncle has a small house behind his granddaughter's house & he gets his mail when she remembers to give it to him.

My mail box is outside my door 2 steps to the right on the wall.

Someone has to be awful lazy not to check their mail box down the street for a week.

Our box is in a two layered panel of small squared boxes
under a stairway to an upper apartment at the end of our
row of townhouses.(whew, that was a mouthful LOL) My hubby usually gets the mail on his way in from the car port parking area. So I rarely have to walk down to get it myself.
I wish I lived as close to our mailbox as you do. Or maybe
not, since all the cars drive through that area so often, and
that means alot more noise :(.
