Obviously you just don't like horror films along with some other people here. It's not that they're overrated, you don't like them. I hate romance movies. Do I think they're overrated no, i just hate them. Not all horror films are there to "corrupt your mind". Some people enjoyed being scared, like a good story about good vs evil or how someone will defeat the unstoppable monster.

The Exorcist movies are movies based on some "facts". I have read it is loosely based on the same story the Exorcisim of Emily Rose is about. There are stories about exorcisms dating back to the bible so it's not like the holiest of books doesn't touch on this subject.

And not all are about violence and gore. It's like saying every chick flick is about some woman who is dying of cancer. There are some amazing horror flicks that really do more than show violence ex Silence of the Lambs. I think films like Hostel and Saw are really overrated by their fans, but that's their liking.

Horror movies talk about defeating evil, not corrupting you into being evil. They're entertaining. They make you jump, they make you nervous, and they can make you think. Horror movies are typically underrated, not overrated.

The first Saw film (not the subsequent ones) was pretty brilliant. It did not tell you to be evil. It asked you a question: how much do you value your life? It was a scary thing to face because I don't think I could do the things that the characters were forced to do. Gory, yes, but that's not its purpose (like Hostel which had no real purpose except to disgust you). It's there to make you think.

The greatest horror movie in my opinion would have to be The Exorcist. Gotta love seeing Linda Blairs head twirl a complete 360! Wicked. The sequels were not that great as the original, but some of the special effects were great.

Personally, I dont think that horror movies are overrated! I love horror movies. There are all kinds of horror movies. Not all of them are about evil or the devil. Now the exorcist was indeed about the devil, and actually one of the most scariest movies that I have ever seen in my life.

I like horror movies, but I've yet to find one that can really frighten me. Most of them will make you sick. Gross is gross, but it's not scary, Some of them will startle you. But again, a cat jumping through a window suddenly can make your heart race for a second, but it's not scary. The Exorcist was a little scary, but it was very long and most of it was boring.

In my opinion, horror films are just how much gore and violence directors and writers can fit into the allowed time limit. From the ones I've seen, the plots are hard to follow or there hardly is one. All in all, I find them fairly pointless.
