Macs and PC's work differently. It's basically what the user is used to.
Macs are primarily focused on multimedia such as movie editing, music, photos and communication. Everything in a Mac just works. When you install a program, you literally copy the contents onto the hard drive and *boom* it works.
PC's are better for business solutions such as office, networking and databases. Windows seems to crash more because the software installation process spreads the files to several places such as the registry, system folders, etc unlike the Mac.
And, yes, PC's have more viruses because there are more PC users in the world because of businesses so hackers tend to target them a lot more.

Stability of the operating system and virus-less. Last time I checked there were only two viruses for Mac and I don't even use virus software. And they are much easier to figure out. How many help me questions do you see here from Mac owners? Not a whole lot. But there's more than a few from Windows machines owners. Windows has been trying to imitate the Mac ease of use and friendly desktop for years but it is still nothing more than a cheap imitation.
Mac still is the preferred platform in the arts related computing.
One thing that makes a big difference I think is that the vast majority of Mac users are serious computer users while a lot of Windows machine are used as entertainment or for "low skill" computing. I use to work in graphic design in the printing industry and there wasn't a single Windows machine there. Today I use them for photography and movie work. Some of the software I use I don't think even exist for Windows.
But I do have one Windows machine for a different part of my work. There are a couple of websites that I use just about every day that I can't fully access from Mac.
You can actually run Windows on your Mac by the way but if you the access the Internet from that side you are putting your Mac at risk. That's why I have a separate machine.
Macs are more expensive. Not by much if you get one of the iMacs or if you're lucky enough to find a used one although they don't lose a whole lot of value very fast.
Hope that helps.

Yes, you can use broadband. I'm using wifi broadband while I type this on an iPod touch.
Why do people like Macs? It's a com nation of things. The most obvious thing is style and originality. Then there is ease of use - not just programs but the whole set up. There are far fewer system crashes, one or two a year (on a six yr old machine with not enough memory). Stuff just works out of the box. In part this is because the hardware and software are designed to work together.
In a commercial setting there have been independent studies (Gartner Group and an Australian university) that show the cost of ownership of Macs to be about three quarters of the cost of PCs (that's purchase and maintenance).

I have a mac. I have had my maxc for the last 3 yeares and it is running better than ever.
On the new intel based macs you can run windows and mac on the same computer, also lets say that you get a virus on the windows part, it wont even effect the mac part.
You can use all the windows software on the windows part and all the mac software on the mac part.
So with a pc you are getting 1 but with a mac you are getting 2 in 1. yes they are a but pricey but they are beautiful and your getting 2 in 1. Also its the best music system in the world and if you love watching photos then mac is for you.
Also if you dont need lots of memory and you just want to surf the net and listen to some music there is the mini mac which is $600!
That about £300.!.!>!>!>!>!>!>!
EA games have now made a partnership with mac and are making all the great games for windows on mac too.
So i would buy a mac :))))
(it has built in wireless networt too :)
Happy buying.

People in the know usually like Macs because of stability.
It is widely known that the operating system used on a Mac (Os x) is more stable for certain tasks like publishing and design ect. Than on a PC using Microsoft windows.
It's generally cheaper than windows too.

In the olden days, they used to handle graphics better than PCs, so gained a following with designers and creative types. These days there are still people who claim the Mac Operating system is more elegant and intuitive than windows, and that Macs are more stable and virus-proof.

After years of living and cursing my MS PC's: waiting for them to boot up (several times a day) waiting for them to shut down at night, and frequently being told that I am doing something illegal, I finally reckoned that they had wasted enough of my life, and I bought a Macbook. Now I have stopped cursing, get to bed earlier, and don't have to reboot during the day.
Life is wonderful, after all.
Incidentally, Macs can work with Windows, but it is not really necessary as they have other options. You have the choice.

Simple - they are the best and the operator system is VERY user friendly. They can also run Windows, though the reverse is not true - a Windows machine is not smart enough to run Apple software. Makes you think.....doesn't it?
Your supplementary question - yes they are excellent running broadband.

For one thing they are usually cheaper, but the main reason I like macs is that there are very little viruses written for macs. I have been told by numerous computer techs this is because very little people have macs and also they are on a rotating server
