Of course they are barbaric, just like all Arab countries. It's disgusting.

That country is barbaric , any nation that treats its female population as second class citizens as Saudi Arabia do is barbaric. The second reason is because they ( the barbarians) hide behind religion to promote this type of behavior to enslave the spirit of another human being.
The Saudi Arabian government only care about what the average man has in that country. they are low life scum in general.

Although I do not agree with what has happened to this young woman in any way, shape or form, I believe the term "civilized" is defined by the user. The world is a big place and there are many customs and traditions out there. We see things, only, from our point of view.(I'm trying to be objective here) Obviously, there is a reason females are not allowed out in public places without a male relative escort. It may very well be to prevent such incidents from occurring. To protect her honor. (family escourts were a custom in this country too awhile back) Since this has been a long held custom, by going out unescourted, she was considered the trigger. As I said, I don't agree with this but I don't live there! If I did, I would have to follow custom as I EXPECT CUSTOM TO BE FOLLOWED HERE. I might imagine, people from Saudi Arabia think some of our customs unthinkable too.

In this case you cited I assume myself as a Judge and in that role my verdict will be cruel and public execution for the rapists after cutting in raw off their guilty organs in public view. This I believe will act as a deterrant. I will attach their entire property including their family possessions and hand over the same to the girl as compensation. You will say that I too am barbaric in my thinking; but don't you think that barbarism can be met only through worse barbarism.
The justice cited by you in your question lacks in sensitivity and sensibility. Poor Girl. It added further hurt to her injured body and mind.
In India rape is a common occurrence and if the legal codes are changed to my way thinking there would not be a single instance of rape in the society. To hell with crime- promoting democracy.

It is a matter of perception. In Islamic countries they have a different view of things, to them the fact that women in the US, UK, Israel walk around unescorted, wear bathing suits that are very reveling is barbaric and a sign of a a place where people are nothing more than animals.
while we might consider the punishments sever by our standards, doesn't necessarily mean they are, they are just different. She is lucky she wasn't stoned to death

Now they punish others with their wee wee's....Maybe thats why they avoid Africa.... I think the turbans are to keep their last 2 braincells from evaporating. A law named after a woman is now anti woman? WTF? We may want to consider "NOT" being their friends...If Condoleeza Rice gets into a limo with President Bush in Saudi Arabia....can they both be raped by law? Barbaric without remorse..I feel a few well placed nukes would be a good start...hey they wanna live in the 12th century...lets help em get there.

Barbaric infidels... that have lost faith in Islam and resort to the laws of 'man' rather then the trust in the judgment of God.
Who are they to carry out a task that even the Prophet would have no opinion on? They have succeeded in ensuring that Muslims across the world have lost any ground they have gained in a civil lifestyle...
I'm sure I'll see a few of these infidels in Bahrain trying to by me a drink because I'm pretty.

I've not thought much of Saudi Arabia ever since I found out it was where Idi Amin was allowed to live his exiled life of luxury.
I wouldn't call it barbaric.
It's no more out of touch with reality than the fact that crime against property gets harsher sentences than crime against the person in England.
It's culture. I'm glad it's not mine ...

The whole country of Saudi Arabia is full of stone age savages. The US should have invaded Saudi Arabia and brought them freedom and democracy. Even pre-war Iraq was far to liberal compared to Saudia Arabia.

I have lived in saudi for almost 10 years now, I fell that it is a very traditional country. They follow the shar-ia law to the detail. Although I feel that this punishment is very cruel and unjust, I do not belive that saudi is a barbaric country. For example, would a barbaric country give 10 million in supplies to Bangledesh towards the damage from the cyclone?]
Saudi arabia has its differences from other countries, but that does not make it a barbaric country so to say.
