in non-conferance games the NFC has won 23
and AFC teams have won only 21
are the Colts and the Patriots really so much stronger than the Cowboys and Packers?

No, the last few years there has been a lot of disparity, but your right, I mean, I don't think the Colts and Steelers are any better than the Cowboys and the Packers, and the NFC also has NYG, Seattle (which is getting better), and other teams that can always contend.

Take away the freakish NE Pats and the leagues are pretty much even anymore...

Outside of the Patriots, you make a strong argument here as the NFC does really have some strong teams this year with the Cowboy and the Packers. The majority of the Super Bowl victories in the last ten years or so has mostly gone with the AFC with the Patriots of course winning three of them so that's probbly the main reason people consider the AFC as better than the NFC. I think that the Patriots are stronger than anyone in football period both AFC and NFC and it's very hard to argue about that until somebody proves that they can be beat.

1. Ravens- week to week they are the best team in football, very consistant all season except the buffalo game 2. Jets- two weeks ago i had them number one, after the last two games number 3 was tempting... 3. Steelers- i think their best football has already been played and their last two games have been dreadful 4. Patriots- the browns game aside this team just finds ways to win 5. Titans- very under-rated right now, Moss will open things up for Johnson who i expect to start shredding defenses again NFC 1. Falcons- they have struggled at times and lucked out in some games but the offense is feirce and the defense is not to shabby. 2. Packers- the keep playing well despite the slew of injuries which makes you wonder what could have been this season 3. Saints- they are on the cusp of a run thanks to a weak second half schedule 4. Giants- they dont have a single quality win and have been blown out twice by AFC south teams 5. Eagles- with Mike Vick under center they might be the NFCs best, with Kevin Kolb? not so much i agree that picking five from the NFC is tough because they all are pretty weak, they have looked better the past few weeks but its just because there havent been any high profile inter-conference games lately

People only say the AFC is stronger than the NFC because the Patriots are so good. Sure they have the Colts, Steelers and a couple of other teams with pretty good records, but the NFC teams are matching up on these records as well. Other than the Patriots, the AFC and NFC match up pretty well.

Rod Woodson made the point 2 weeks ago that the NFC is the "junior varsity" conference. Remember, the AFC used to be the weaker one until the Broncos started winning. The top 3 teams in the NFL are in the AFC- Pats, Colts, Steelers. Anyone of those teams would dominate the NFC convincingly.

this year has been a little different. but you've gotta think about these teams

AFC
Patriots
Colts
Chargers
Bengals
Ravens
Steelers
Titans
Jags... it's tough to make it to the playoffs in the AFC

NFC
Cowboys
Giants
Bears?
Seahawks?
Saints?
Packers are now considered this year

Its hard to even think of that many real good teams in the NFC
wild cards are waaay open

Just look at last year ...3 teams in the NFC east alone made the playoffs.. Eagles won the division and the Cowboys AND the Giants snuck in as wild cards. where is the competition there?

From like 1985-1997 the NFC won every Super Bowl

back in the 80s it was the opposite ...the NFC was stronger the tide has changed though and rather than looking at a skewed statistical analysis like NFC won 23 and AFC won 21 . you have to look at who won the Superbowl's .......the best team wins and lately it has been the AFC.and yes the pats are that much better, and when Indy was healthy they were that much better also.

This season is different. The Bears, Chargers, Eagles, Panthers, Ravens and others have gotten a lot worse. But teams like the Lions, Packers, Browns and others have improved.

However, the Patriots are easily the best team in the NFL.

That coming from a Charger fan.
