Certifications are usually presented to individuals who complete some sort of specialty training like life saving, paramedic, nurses aid etc. Associate degrees are conferred to graduates of two year institutions.; bachelors from four year programs,,Masters for specialized study after the bachelors requirement is met.I believe a Doctorate can be obtained after a Masters degree is earned by writing a thesis on a subject, going before a board of professors who quiz the candidate on the thesis .
