I am on a computer, but working with a laptop by my side.
On the laptop i am on the IP address 192.168.1.1.
It is asking me questions.....and i dont know what to put.
i tried to "test", and a pop up came up that said a succesful internet coneection was made.
then i tried apply and nothing happened.
please help me from here?

click start, run, then type command and hit enter
this will bring up a dos prompt.
type ping yahoo.com
If you get replies and no loss, you have a good connection to the internet.

This question is somewhat involved, but here goes...you need to check with your ISP if there is a specific IP Address and Internet connection type that should be setup on your router. This is a compatibility issue that you are running into. If your ISP says it should be DHCP then you will either have to call NetGear to go thru the setup or you can try this:

Click Start->Run and type in http://www.routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm

The reason for this is because if you use the Smart Wizard then the program will only use a PPTP connection because it won't be able to detect DHCP. Any settings you need to input can then be done in this window. Save settings and then reboot your router and, if necessary, your computer.
