D. They can resemble rats, in a way, but contrary to popular belief they are not another kind of rat. Chinchillas are rabbit-sized, crepuscular rodents native to the Andes mountains in South America. Along with their relatives, viscachas, they belong to the family Chinchillidae.

a chinchilla is a very cute animal, not a rat! They are sometimes pets. They have beautiful fur and large eyes.
=====================
They were used in fur trading that goes back as far as the 16th century. When the Spanish conquered the Chinca Indians in the 1500’s, they discovered these little fur balls and after touching their fur found them to be in high demand for their pelts. In Europe in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s, a chinchilla fur coat was a must-have for royalties and well-to-do families. It took approximately 100 chins to make a coat so many of the creatures had to be killed to make one coat. The outcome was a low number of chins in the wild by the end of the 19th century. The Chilean government seeing the chinchilla on its way to becoming extinct began passing laws to outlaw the killing of these beautiful rodents.

A chinchilla is none of those. I have a chinchilla. It's kind of like a bunny but a bit like a rodent. It has big ears, hops like a kangaroo, and has the softest coat you've ever felt.
Do a google search for photos.

It is a small animal some what like a Guinea pig.
They are usually gray in color.
They must not be kept in a place where they can get too hot.
High temperatures will kill them.

It is a very beautiful rat-like animal, like a muskrat or weasel, and they are raised in farms for making fur coats. They are VERY expensive, just for one.
