Catholic priests were persecuted. Closet Catholics had small spaces built into their homes called "priest holes" for the priests to hide when the army came to round them up. Many conspired with Spain during the time of the Armada, and then were persecuted even more afterward for treason.

Henry viii had them all executed, well not all of them but they were all prsecuted this went on beyond the Elizabethan era as catholism was outlawed.

They were persuted for their beliefs and theories. Most of them were driven out of the monastries and cathedrals were looted. Many Catholic priests were also burned at the stake at it was a time a political and religious unrest.
