I have a 3800+ singlecore 939 with 2x512mb DDR sticks (one 2100, other 3200) resulting to run at a ddr2100 speed which is the slowest speed for DDR. I am thinking of getting a gig stick of ddr memory. Doubling my ram speed will of course make a difference in speed. Also, i am planning on upgrading to a dualcore as well, a 4000++ dualcore. Instead of spending around $40-60 on another stick of old ram or $100-200 on a new soc 939 cpu, i was thinking of getting a new mobo, cpu, ram all together, since modern computer components are very cheap at the moment and also are definitely faster! Those AM2 processors are very cheap, i can't believe my eyes, also a gig stick of DDR2 memory is only $25! About half the price of normal DDR memory.

However i am broke at the moment, so would it be a good idea to just buy another stick of ddr ram only? Or should i just wait it out and build a new computer all together later on?

just adding ram wont make a major difference ... if anything, if ur board supports raid u could raid two harddrives and put the operating system on it and go ahead and add a gig of ram .. that will pep things up, but ur ryt ... getting a new board processor and ram together is the best way to upgrade ...

Hold out for a new one. Keep in mind that AMD is talking about a whole new line of processors next quarter, so the AM2 platform may be nearing the end of its run, so if you get AM2 processor now, your upgrade options will likely be limited by next summer.

There are a number of really really RAM intensive games out there right now, like Witcher, but continuing to invest in a DDR system just doesn't make any sense at this point.

Wait it out! if you have 1 GB that should be fine for 80% of the apps you use.
Wait and do a full build Next year. Prices well be even cheaper and newer technology.

I would do the cheap Ram upgrade first, then save a little cash for a new machine. Then when ready, part your old machine out and sell it on ebay or use compatible parts in your new machine.
