making my own jean skirt and i'm going to try to embroider some hearts and some other stuff on it. just need to know what the best stitch type to use is. thanks alot

As long as you follow the heart outline, it doesn't really matter what embroidery stitch you use. Use whatever you find easiest. Check an embroidery book for stitches and try them out, then use the one you are most comfortable with. A simple stem stitch would work well for the outside, then if you want to fill the inside, just work random small stitches here and there. That will look nice. or fill the inside with small cross stitches; they don't have to look perfect, it just to fill it in. You can also use a backstitch for the outline. Chain stitch would be good too, if you want to fill in the whole thing with that. Don't stress, just do what you feel comfortable with.

A blanket stitch works well--it looks like a hand applique when you're done. Also a satin stitch is commonly done for this type of project. To create a satin stitch, use a standard zig-zag on your machine. Adjust the stitch length and width until you get an attractive satin stitch.
