Why in the world can't you have a debit card? What does your credit rating have to do with it? You open an account and it either offers a debit card or it doesn't. Maybe you have the wrong type of account.

ABBEY, but their customer service is currently atrocious!
Halifax are giving you 6% at the moment for anything in your account so if you have £100 in the account you will get 60P interest each month.
One trick is to get an account that asks for more than £1000 a month to be payed in, all you have to do then is to withdraw some of your own cash!! To make your total monthly up to £1000 (if for example you only earn £700) and then put it all back in ie £300 to make it up to £1000. Do that each month to qualify for 6% interest.
Forget credit that is for loosers, get free money from your bank instead.

you can have a debit, all you need would be a checking account and they will issue you a debit card. Bank of America and Washington Mutal are both good choices. Washington Mutual offers free checks + your debit card.
Bank of america was just more convenient for me.
Normally they want a certain amount in your account such as at least $100 a month meaning as long as you have $100 you won't have to pay a monthly fee.

Try a building society but no bank or buiding society will give you a debit card unless they believe that you will use it sensibly. Open a new account with someone else, look after the account and they'll give you a debit card in due course.

Well I have a cash card too but you can charge it as credit or debit ... But you can get a bank account and it will have over draft but just because you have it dosent mean you have to use it.. and Its not like they are going to charge you for not using it.

Go to your bank and explain you need a debit card to replace your standard bank card, but that you don't want a cheque book or overdraft on it.

bank of america has overdraft protection and it is free i think, if you just open a savings and not checking it will be just an atm card like a debit that you can use anywhere and it comes straight from your account.

i agree credit unions are usualy much easier on fees and such
i have security service credit union and i have little to no fees whereas most of my family members has like say chase, bank of america ect ect and they have many many fees that i never heard of.
theres even a few rotten banks aka woodforest the walmart bank who charge fees multiple times a month instead of just a normal monthly fee

Yes, Washington Mutual. I promise, they rock! And to answer the person above me, credit does have something to do with banking now. Just like car insurance...I hate it.
