Do I have to pick one? Well I would have to go with "(New Wave) Polly" Polly is the first acoustic song that Nirvana ever recorded and deals with the story of a young girl who was held hostage and raped, the only way that she could escape was to come on to her captor and get him to untie her. Cobain went on to deal with the issue of rape in future tracks in a more direct way but in Polly he tries to disguise his intentions, possibly because this was the first album that he had actually thought about lyrics on and was careful not to give too much away. Polly is an important song in the growth of Nirvana as it gave them the chance to show that they were much more than just a regular rock band. Polly doesn’t offer much in the way of a catchy lyric or riff but still seems to stick in your head like a nursery rhyme.
The album title is a portmanteau of the words "incest" and "insecticide".
