In "A Bard's epitaph", he uses the phrase "a bard of rustic song": this could be a theme, because he often uses the word "bard" and writes about rural, rustic or pastoral themes (poetry, rurality). Scotland, or more generally territories, is another theme that would allow you to talk about language as well (Scottish words). Portraits (of people, or creatures of any kind): you could talk about satire or caricature.
Finally: agreements and disagreements, or harmony and disharmony (there are many poems about conflicts, contentions, etc...).

If I'm not mistaken, the paper should be "compare and CONTRAST" Why do they have to be the same theme? And in any case, if the theme DOES have to be the same, he wrote a lot of love poems...that should give you a place to start.

Burns' themes included republicanism (he lived during the French Revolutionary period) and Radicalism which he expressed covertly in Scots Wha Hae, Scottish patriotism, anticlericalism, class inequalities, gender roles, commentary on the Scottish Kirk of his time, Scottish cultural identity, poverty, sexuality, and the beneficial aspects of popular socialising (carousing, Scotch whisky, folk songs, and so forth).

good luck
