Why don't you download the firefox browser? It automatically pops up with a window that asks you if you want to save info every time you log on to different sites. Much safer too.

There are two parts to this problem:

1. If you are facing this problem on http://account.live.com site.

This is a known issue and Product Group is diligently working to resolve this.

2. If you are facing this problem only on Windows Live Hotmail http://hotmail.com site and not on http://account.live.com site

Currently there is a limitation with Windows Live Mail and MSN Hotmail that require users to confirm their password and account name at least once every 24 hours. It is also true that if you use the "Sign Out" link it will unsave the password even within that 24 hour window. This is the policy that they adopted to preserve the security of your e-mail.

Microsoft is constantly reviewing its security policies and it is possible that the login requirement may change in the future, but at this time there is no way for a customer to change this setting.

We understand that this may not be the default behavior that you would prefer. We appreciate your understanding that this is not an issue that we can troubleshoot and resolve together. You may want to use the Feedback link on your mail account to let the developers know that you would prefer to be able to make this change in the future.

If the page is in https (secured) then ie doesn't save the passwords for you. So even if you have the "save my details" option on, it would not work in this situation.

Everytime you (or someone else) deletes the temporary internet files, to hide where they've been, this deletes info like that. Could be that.

When you log in, are ticking the box that says "Remember my details"?

If you are then this would create a memory of it.
