What exactly encompasses winning in Iraq and Afghanistan, if that is possible.?

Any thoughts? I am curious. Does that mean violence to be down to Detroit level, or running water in Bagdhad for more then 1 hour a day?

To the GOP, winning in Iraq is making Haliburton and Blackwater as much money as possible.

BTW Strats, there is no way to stop terrorism. The war on terror is just a marketing slogan like the war on drugs. It's a never ending war. The longer we're in Iraq babysitting their civil war, the more terrorists are created. Think about it, there were people in the middle east that didn't like the U.S. because of our foreign policy. Now we've illegally invaded a country and killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. We've created more hatred for the US then we've eliminated terrorism. Think about it, someone kills your family indiscriminately and claims they're just here to help, but you're on your own to deal with the loss of your family, aren't you going to have hatred towards the people that killed your family? When you have no electricity, no running water, no job, no family and an occupying army that is killing people left and right, you don't have a lot to live for. These people are defending their homeland and will do so as long as we're there. Just as you and I would do if the US was illegally invaded and occupied.

This war is only hurting the US and creating more enemies. The sooner we leave Iraq the less enemies the US will have. If you disagree with me then I suggest you sign up and go donate your life to the "War on Terrorism".

A free market country that shares the same interest as the Western world.

Establishing a democracy sounds good, but it wouldn't necessarily be a 'victory'. Palestinians elected terrorists from the Hamas party in democratic elections and Iraqis could eventually wind up with a democratically elected Shiite theocracy allied with Iran.

An end to violence would be great, but the violence level just has to be low enough for Iraqi/Afghanistan governments to control on their own to be a victory.

At this point three stable states emerging from the Old Iraq would be a victory if it at least brought an end to us fighting a war there.

Winning in Iraq and Afghanistan is a secure country where the government can provide the services governments are supposed to provide and the people understand that they run their government not the government run them. In Iraq you have to contend with religious sects who want power and the right to "tax" the people for their sect. In Afghanistan wen are fighting long established tribal lords who have always made their money ( meaning power) growing opium. They use religion as a means to keep the "infidel" from messing with their business.
The "win" would be a people who are presently constitutionaly barred or forcibly barred by thug fascists from participation in their governments if they are the "wrong" religion, to having an undiluted right to participate. Neither the government nor any other entity actively engaged in violence with one another would help that along.

after a Football Game ---when you were outfought by
someone bigger or better---it was traditional (and wise)
to admit you were licked and walk away ---in fact it was
a good way to make friends ---especially if you had a
black eye ----friends and enemies would say it was the
Manly thing to do---it was in sense another way of
winning !

That's what we should do in both places---it's also
a lot Cheaper---if we keep on spending Trillions
on Tribal Wars we may not be able to afford
Running Water---or Gasoline for running Cars !
