My favourite qualities in a book are when it :~

Grabs me on the first page.
Slowly draws me in over the first chapter.
Builds in intensity throughout.
Includes comic moments within serious subjects.
Manages to give me one more surprise that I never saw coming.
Concludes in a satisfying way.
Leaves me wanting more ~ especially important if it is part of a series!

I like books that:
-Have developed characters that have a history that only the author really knows all of it
-Have huge plot twists (go HP 3, HP 7, Eldest, and this book that's nothing like any of the others but has an awesome twist!)
-Have characters that seem real- no Spidey or Superman figures!
-Seem realistic, even if they are from another time or place- that means that if it's in Oz, it's gotta seem likeif you didn't know it was Oz, you'd think it was here (I got very confuses with that matter in Wicked, but it was still good. But, doesn't Oz and here have the same alphabet? I'm still puzzling over that!)
- I like it to be funny, even if it's a really serious matter (have you read HP 7? The darkest book of all of them, but it's by far the funniest! I'll go from crying to laughing out loud!)

I guess there's more, but I don't really identify them. I just like books!

I like books that have these qualities: a good hook (first sentence or two to get my attention),

good build-up to a conflict, which I guess you could call tension or description or dialogue, whatever it takes (hopefully all of the above) that is the best form in that story to reach the point of conflict;

a good conflict, one that is interesting from more than one point of view, or in other words is multi-faceted;

and a satisfactory denouement, whether the book is a cliff-hanger or not.

I like a book to get a story TOLD. I'm sure you know what I mean.

I think I spent so long as a journalist that I like books in which every paragraph counts. There are a lot of great books that fill that requirement, thanks to a lot of great authors.

My favorite quality in a book is surprise. I read many many books, and it has gotten to the point where I can predict the ending of most. But if a book can surprise me at some point, I love it.

I like it when a book has stuff you can relate to. And when it has detail.Enouf for you to get a picture,but not so much that it spends a half a page or more. And when it keeps ypu in suspense so no you dont stop after that chapter. And it keeps you gussing not making what you thought happen after all. But I hate it when it leaves unanswered questions. Like,what happend to the character with something?(unless it has a sequeal) Sorry its so long!!! : )

The way it's written, the way words describe things in details, a good plot, a good storyline, makes sense, very interesting, funny, honest, dramatic, etc. Most of all a book that keeps me guessing what's going to happen next so in that way I can't put the book down!

My favorite part of a book is the descriptive nature that completely sucks you in. It makes you feel like you are there smelling cold, pine air or feeling a warm dog tongue licking your toes.
