my first daughter didnt do this. this one will NOT stand to be put in her crib to fall asleep. we have to hold her until she's in her little baby-coma before we can put her down. and then , it has to be done very carefully.
dont get me wrong, we're not the kind to leave her in there all the time, to where she'll get that horrible flat-head. but she refuses to be in there until she's completely out.

Each child is different and I don't think a 6 week old baby is doing it to manipulate her parents. For nearly 40 weeks, the unborn babies are wrapped pretty tightly in the womb, their needs being met on demand.
Now it's a new sensation for them, while some adjust pretty quickly on the outside, some need that reassurance of being held tightly and hearing a heartbeat for a bit longer.
None of my 3 sons ever just fell asleep in the crib, it was usually in a swing, being rocked after a feeding, a ride in the car, but once they were out, that was it.

My daughter is 6 weeks old also. She is my first so I don't have anyone else to really compare her to. . . but. . . she does the same thing during the day. She will not stay asleep unless I hold her. If I put her down, she has to be sound asleep.
What works for me is rocking her to sleep. She seems to fall asleep faster. When I put her down, I leave one hand under her head and pat her chest lightly with the other until she falls asleep (if she wakes) then I slowly move the hand from under her head and continue the light pat.
Sometimes I take my free hand and rock her gently while she lays down in her bed.

My first child was like that! I found if I could prop into the corner of a chair with pillows and blankets so he was still kinda upright like I was holding him, he would sleep. Sometimes for a couple of hours! Also a vacuum or hairdryer under the swing for 15 minutes would put him out cold! Hope it helps. My doctor told me some babies need more cuddles and to give it too them because they can not be spoiled this little!

My youngest (of 3) was like that. As far as I'm concerned, you should hold your baby for every conceivable moment you can. In the blink of an eye your baby will be 10 years old and will refuse to be seen with you at the bus stop. Enjoy this very fleeting time while you can.

Some babies just have a stronger need to be held than others. This is a good things from a biological perspective - babies that are held a lot are happier and healthier. You could try carrying her in a sling.

My daughter was like that. It turned out that she was hyperactive and was bored half to death until she could crawl and get around herself. I used to carry her in a forward facing baby carrier until she was able to move around on her own. (I did give her regular tummy time on a blanket on the floor with toys, though.)

she could be colicky and the warm of your body is good for her. babies at that age need to feel secure and being held lets them feel that way. they hear your heart beat and know you are near. get a recorder and record a heart beat. put this next to her bed and see if this works. these are only suggestions. i hope one of them will help.
