There are many different hormone levels- which ones do you mean?

Your doctor wouldn't just order them for no reaosn if he/she doesn't know you- he or she would want to alk to you about your history and why you wanted them drawn. Its likely if they dont know you that they will examine you, take your blood pressure, weigh you and talk to you about your health history, medications, etc. If you are not feeling well or experiening changes, they would want to tak to you about what is happening, how you are changing and the side effects.

If they feel they need to look at your blood, they will order the blood tests, either drawing them there if there is a phlebotomist or referring you to a place where there is a phlebotomist.

Could you be a bit more explicit about your answer? are you worried about menopause? Thyroid? Gonadal (sex/geneder related) hormones? Insulin ?. Hormones are chemical messengers in the body. Produced by glands, they regulate different body processes; insulin regulates energy use; estrogen and testosterone (with others) regulate sexual function and gender characeristics; thyroxin (thyroid hormones) helps regulate metabolism. If the messengers arent working right, the messages dont get through and things go wrong.

If the doctor cant see any evidence of a metabolic or endocrine (thats what a hormone related problem is called- an endocrine problem because hormones are produced in the endocrine system) problem, he or she is unlikely to order blood work unless there is a speciifc reason for yur concern. Working in partnership with your doctor is the best way to make sure you remain healthy.

Can you give more info please?

Cheers

When I had my hormone levels checked, all they did was take my blood. Results depend on the tests available at the clinic. If they are able to run the tests there, usually a few hours as long as they aren't backed up. If they have to send samples to another lab, it could take a few more days.

They take your blood. It takes a few weeks for the results to get back. And they normally tell you at your next appointment.

All doctors do things differently. Most times when you make an appointment, they ask you what you are being seen for. You could ask to speak to the doctor's nurse and she/he would have a good idea about long and what the procedures involve.

i got my hormones checked regulary.
i had complaints , feeling very warm fast heartbeat, that indicate that something was wrong with the hormones.
so there was a reason for the doctor to investigate that.

after giving the blood it will take two days to get the result , hey send the liquid to the hospital to check it.

When I went I told the doc my concerns...they weighed me, kinda did a "physical" to get a baseline and then drew 3 viles of blood. Results were back to me 3 days later.
