We are moving to San Jose for work. We would like to get a 1 BR apt. in a safe, fun and lively area. We are a couple in our mid-late 20s and do not have a lot of money. Where should we move? We are interested in living downtown.

I would recommend west san jose or north san jose over downtown. Its not that good of a place to live (i dont really feel safe there) Also stay way from east san jose.

No, I would not move from San Jose to Denver because I would never live in San Jose.

San Jose is great, I've been here all my life. When it comes to safety, downtown is not the best place to be, however, the surrounding area is good and nothing takes more than a few minutes to get across town. In west SJ there is an apt. complex called Archstone. It has pool, gym, security, safety, and a good price range. The surrounding area is full of shopping, close to major intersections and fun.
Good Luck and may San Jose be good to you and your family.

Living in San Jose is expensive. You should expect to pay about $1000 for a one bedroom in a safe area.

Check out Craigslist at:

I, myself, would not want to live downtown. Many of the rentals in the downtown area are run down. You really should come here first to check out both the rentals and the surrounding areas. Before you pick a place check it out both at day time and night time.

Downtown is cheap in the city of San Jose, one bed room costs $800 to $1000,there are a lot of parks and museums nearby, and easy to take train to SF( 59min) and SJ is safest big city in the nation.
