No, it's not just you and your friends. This has been a very challenging year for anyone making less than $175,000. The inflationary numbers that have been released are "highly massaged" at best, "absolute lies" at worst. Energy prices have finally been priced into the market, sending the cost of everything through the roof. That, coupled with the weak dollar, has reduced our buying power quite significantly. Don't let some moron tell you that the weak dollar doesn't affect you because it only impacts the price of foreign goods or goods with a foreign component. Can you think of anything you buy that doesn't have a foreign component? This is the downside of globalization. We're still paying those outsourced guys in India 500 rupees per day, but all of a sudden, that's $8 per day instead of $4 per day. We're still paying 100 yuan for all of our Chinese junk, but all of a sudden, that's $20 instead of $10.
Bush and Cheney are actively supporting high energy prices and a weak dollar. These economic factors favor a few of their very rich friends at the expense of everyone else. Don't let them get away with it...

Nope, doing fine thanks! Am 34, own my home outright, have a high interest savings deposit account in addition to a well-stocked ISA and a comprehensive pension plan. It's a combination of working hard since leaving school at the age of 16 and a well-developed sense of financial responsibility - certainly nothing to do with high earnings or luck. I'm off to buy some US dollars with the leftovers, seeing as I can pick them up for next to nothing at the moment.
Just try not spending as much - if you're broke, that should fix it.

You aren't alone. Though I am not broke I see my finances need restructure. It is due to the rising cost of goods and services.. This rise is not being reflected in paychecks.

Well, I guess what you should do depends on why you all went broke, were you living beyong your means? Did you get fired from a job? Are you just spending too much money and not saving any? Did you get a lot of unexpected bills? Medical bills?
