E) Carbon has a oxidation value of 2 or 4 which means it can instigate redox reaction similar to oxygen.

One doesn't usually think of C as an oxidizing agent, but in producing aluminum or beryllium carbides, Al4C3 or Be2C, it gets reduced, so it must have been an oxidizing agent.
