He is currently drinking 6oz every 4 hours during the day and sleeps 8 hours at night. He isnt crying or miserable, but he does spit up all day long. I dont know if its because he drinks such a large quantity at feedings? Would giving a little bit of cereal cut down on the amount during feedings?

I would not give cereal to a baby that little ever.

You will know when your baby should start eating cereal because your baby will turn 6 months old.

Your 3 month old isn't quite old enough yet. Wait until 4 mos if you have no history of food allergies, and 6 mos if you do. When you do start, make sure to start with rice cereal, as it's typically the least allergenic, and feed by spoon...not in the bottle. :)

maybe he is just a hungry baby! but i think you have to wait till at least 4 mts before you give them cereal. are you feeding him pumped breast milk or fomula? i have seen formula "designed" for babies that spit up a lot. i think theyre soy based. but you should definitely talk to his pediatrician and ask him first if there is another kind of formula you can try before you try to give him cereal. plus if youre bottle feeding him, make you you burp him like halfway thru the bottle. my son spits up if he has too much air in his tummy. good luck!

This should really be up to your babys pediatrician. In any case you should try and stick it out for at least another month or so. You wouldn't want baby developing any allergies and the best way to avoid it is to hold off on foods as long as possible. I got the go ahead from my doctor at 4 months. Needless to say.. it is best to wait... but if you decide that you really want to.. It I don't believe it'll hurt him any.

Your baby is too young for cereal. If he's not crying or mad when he spits up then he's what they call a "happy-spitter" only problem with it is that its messy. Try giving him an ounce or two less per feeding.

Wait another month before starting the cereal.

He's too young for solids. He might need smaller, more frequent feedings, or he might just be a spitter - some babies are.

See the link below for more info. on when/how to start solids.

I would try burping him after each oz he drinks.

Only if he has reflux, and your ped is the olny one that should tell you that.
