I believe, as far as the moon is concerned, we have stopped man rocket missions because of that. Asian countries are now doing so to proove that they have the ability to do so (I feel Japan's intent is purely scientific, but am weary of China's because they are doing it to militirize space).
Mars is in question now, and for the time being is being shot-down. As it should I agree because it would be extremely coslty at this point while we stand little to gain anything different from what the probes can tell us. Any moon trip will be made in an effort to construct a launching pad from there to go to other parts of the solar system.
Happy Thanksgiving!

How much can you learn about anatomy without touching a body?
How much can you learn about chemistry without mixing chemicals and compounds?
How much can you learn about the stratigraphy of foreign planets without an eye on the surface?
Geologically speaking, I'm biased. You can only learn so much before there is a need to conduct hands on experimentation. Any insight into planets in out solar system will give us knowledge about our own. For instance, how could we know the earth is 4.6 billion years old, while the oldest rock on earth is about 3.2? Because a rock we grabbed on the surface of the moon was 4.6 billion, and the moon can't be in earth's orbit if there is no earth.

People are curious and they want to know what is out there. They spend as much money as they think they need and they go out there trying to find answers not only about space, but about the past. The planets can truly tell the greatest stories and people want to expose those stories about the past. The planets and stars could take us back millions of years and some people are willing to do anything to figure that out. Also others just want to know everything and they think that space is something they should know everything about even though that would never work because there are too many blanks in the stories and space never ends (at least as we know)! There are thousands of galaxies out there. Who knows maybe you will be one of the people who finds one of those stories. Hope I helped!

Proximity is a very great factor in determining accuracy of answers, assumtions, ideas, guesses, etc. This leads us to start making newer and more probing assumtions, ideas, guesses, and ask better questions. There's nothing quite like being there. The closer you are the greater detail which will reveal itself.

It's human nature to explore the unknown and to learn. Knowledge requires exploration.

I hate to be the one to say it, but some day there will be weapons on the moon pointed back down at earth. Who's weapons? Probably China.
