There are a few variables that you need to factor in such as the company of course, the IT market, your level of experience, your education and vendor specific certifications you may have and then simply you ability to play the game and yes corporate America is a game and those you play it right get paid a lot.

I can speak for the Midwest and for a good SE you can make in the low 50's to start and with 10+ years experience make in the 80's for a non- management role. Get into management and you can be in the 100's easily (if your good of course)
