I want to get my son one of these for Christmas. Are they the same thing? How are they different? If I get one with a video screen, how long do the batteries last before dying out?
Thanks

iPODs are music players that play music formatted in Apple's compressed music format. MP3 is one type of compressed music format, probably the most common. I don't know if an iPOD will play a generic MP3 or whether it has to be transformed into Apple's format. iTunes (which is a free download from Apple) handles conversion of audio files to whatever format Apple uses. Battery life in video mode will be roughly 1/4 that of audio mode generally speaking. That is, if you can listen to music for 20 hours on a full battery, you can expect about 5 hours of video watching on a full battery. Of course, your mileage may vary. Personally, I would buy a generic MP3 player over an iPOD because for the same functionality and memory capacity Apple is charging you quite a bit more to have the Apple logo on the product.

An ipod IS an mp3.
they are just so much more widely known and more popular than any other mp3 player that theyve sort of got their own name.
