I havent brought anything from Ebay yet. But ive heard of people on their who have tried to buy and purchase an item becuase they have won the auction, and have either gotten the item late, or didnt get anything. Also, what they received, wasnt as it was previously described on the web page. I dont know about buying anything on their after hearing about that. Although, ive heard to that both buyers and sellers have a rating system. If you are a good and truthful seller, you get a higher rating from the customers. And the same for the buyer. Some buyers will win the auction, but then wont make a purchase. Which is wasting the sellers time, so they would get a bad rating. But still is it worth the chance?

I have been buying on eBay for about six years now, Out of about 1000 transactions, I've had problems with about eight, and all of those were people with good (98.5% or better) feedback that just turned bad. It happens - most recently, a woman in Germany that I bought two large groups of banknotes from. First, she said she was moving, then her car broke down, then the thirty day limit for filing a claim with Paypal had passed and I was out my money (For the responder below: If you wait 31 days to file a dispute, Paypal will ignore you. I learned that the hard way. Looks like you did too). I couldn't even leave a negative feedback because by that time she was "no longer a registered user".

Now, I pay by Paypal. If I haven't received an item within 25 days, I file a Paypal dispute regardless of what the seller is telling me, for my own protection if nothing else - the dispute can always be withdrawn.

There are things you can do to minimize your risk (pay attention to feedback, use Paypal when possible, watch the deadline for filing a dispute). If you do that, eBay should be very much worth your while. I have picked up many good deals and met some great people on eBay.

I've purchased various items on Ebay and have not had a problem. I check the sellers ratings and comments from previous people who did business with them before I bid on an item.

There is a risk, as there is a risk with any on-line purchases that you could have delayed shipping or a sham web site and end up not getting the item and being taken for money.

I've used ebay many times with no problem, as a buyer and a seller.

Yes there are some shady sellers. You have to check their FEEDBACK RATINGS to determine if they are on the level. Always check their feedback ratings before making a purchase! Most are honest but there definately are a few crooks.
