Some of all the above! See http://www.webmasterworld.com where the art and science of increasing website traffic is continuously discussed. Freebie ways include: learning to improve your meta keywords and other items mentioned on pages 374-375 of the book, Google Hacks.

"Suggest" your site to search engines. (Each search engine, like Yahoo! and Google and MSN has a different procedure, so you have to go to their site and browse around and look for it. You can also pay for services to do it.)

Link to folks who have similar websites and get them to link to you: especially, if you know THEY are already heavily visited, so you'll know you'll have a better chance of being clicked FROM them.

A traditional PAID-FOR method is to get on Google AdWords. There, your business will pop up as a link on some of those ads you see in banners you see from time to time around the tops and sides and bottoms of web pages here and there, so's folks can click and visit your website.

Good luck!

If you want a lot of visitors and members on you're site, first you will need to promote you're site. Submit you're site to web directories, or another choice might be applying for a SEO service.
