I have a TH 350 trans in a '76 Vette. We put a new carb and intake on. It shifts into 2nd too soon now. The kickdown cable on the carb doesn't seem to be adjusted too short. I suspect a vacuume problem, as the new set up is producing a lot more vacuume than before. I don't know if that can be adjusted even if that is the problem. Any ideas?

adjust the modulator valve on it for longer shifts,go about 1/4 of a turn in at a time that will make the shifts longer,in the middle of where the modulator line goes on there's a tiny screw in there that you turn in,try going small turns, that will make it take longer to shift, good luck on it.,,ps it may take you two or three times to get this right, and you may have to make a screw driver small enough to go in the place it goes ,there's not much room .

If you swapped the intake and carb, then I'm 99% sure the "kickdown cable" is not adjusted correctly. Sounds like there is too much slack in it. See the link for adjustment procedure.

my guess is you have the kick down cable too long .....
or it could be the modulator valve is bad,
check to see if it leaks oil when the hose is removed..
.you do have it connected to a manifold vacuum port don't you ?

not all modulator valves are adjustable but dodge man has a good idea the adjustment screw (if it has one )is in the tube the vacuum line slips over... use a small screw driver

Vacuum modulator on the trans may have to be changed out for one that is compatible with the new vacuum levels....check with a trans rebuilder for options on vac modulator. May have to try a couple different ones to get the best results.
