Injury Reserve.... A player goes here for salary cap implications.

Why the thumbs down, it's true! Every week teams have to submit a roster with the IR, PuP, Active, and Inactive players. Each week is factored into their respective salary and counted against the cap (Cap Penalties, if necessary).

OK it is INJURED Reserved, not injury. The player is injured and basically off the roster, BUT the IR list allows them to still be under contract to the team. It clears up a roster spot if the team needs it actually. Second they ARE OUT FOR THE SEASON. That is why you don't see players put on IR until late in the season, or if they have like a torn ACL or such where they can't come back. Once a player is on IR they aren't allowed to come back for the rest of the year, that is why it frees the roster spot. Now if they were listed as OUT it could be a week or more, but IR is ALWAYS the remainder of the season.

It stands for "Injured Reserve". Every NFL team has to complete an updated roster a few days before their next scheduled contest, and their "IR" players have to be listed for financial/rule/regulatory reasons.

IR is injured-reserved...It means they are out for the season, but still under contract...meaning another team can't come along and sign them...

As far as the colts are concerned a player is put on the IR, after, and only after a signed note from the players mommy is hand delivered to the teams physician 5 mins prior to game day, excusing her son from all activities

NFL players and lots of celebrities have always done things they shouldn't have. There are two reasons why they get in trouble. 1. More celebrities and players are getting caught now cause there may be less corruption in law enforcement. 2. It's harder to cover up the things they are doing now because they are getting more and more outrageous. It's really getting out of control!

Injured reserve, which means they're gone for the remainder of the season.
