to the current generation, Santana and Shelia E are their parent's musical groups, and her father is only a relative of these people. So "well known" in this case, is not truly descriptive, and Lionel Ritchie is much more current, and much more well known.

They make mention to it every once in awhile, but Lionel Ritchie is an icon from way back in the day and even today, you can say his name and he's well known.
Her biological family isn't as high up on the ladder like Lionel Ritchie is.
