Well, first things first. They may not have to come out. Check with your dentist. Get some good x-rays, and don't hesitate to ask for a second opinion if you don't agree with the dentist's assessment.
I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth, one growing out of the bottom of my jaw (this was likely a consequence of a previous reconstructive surgery). It wasn't so much painful, as just uncomfortable. The removal was done by a very skilled surgeon in Milford, CT. I had no pain during the procedure (completely unconscious), and very little after. He gave me a script for pain killers, percacet, but I didn't have to use them. I was very tired for a couple days, though.
I guess it depends on how the teeth are situated, the skill of your physician, your own pain tolerance (I'm told by the doctors who have put me back together a few times that mine is pretty high), and complicating factors.
Do your research. Find a good doc. Sometimes you can find ratings online, but best recommendations are from people you know. If you have a problem with substance abuse, you'll want to tell the doc so they don't give you something addictive. You can get by on tylenol and ice if you have to.
Good luck!

Your pain will be based on the number of wisdom teeth are coming in at once , 1, 2, 3 or all 4. As others mention, get to a dentist immediately - do not wait. USE twlight sleep, have them pull them out, and make sure they prescibe the strongest pain medication allowable. When you wake up after the surgery --- you might cry from the pain, BUT it will subside after 1 day. OH and find some one to take care of you....don't plan to do anything for about 2 days after. Remember take care of your teeth and they will take care of you.

It's probably gonna be pretty sore for about a week. Keep an eye on it though....if it hurts for too much longer than that, you need to see a dentist because there may not be enough room for them to come in properly. Do a warm water/salt swish 2-3 times a day, or use hydrogen peroxide (make sure you don't swallow it though). Tylenol works pretty well for pain control.
Good luck!

Ouch, it is painful. And what's worse is that it'll come and go when you least expect it. Keep some Tylenol handy until you can get them taken care of. All four of mine decided to come in at the same time. And because I didn't have good dental insurance I had to suck it up and live with the pain. I hope you can get them removed soon because they will move your front teeth and you'll be biting yourself all the time.

Go get them removed if you can.
They get very painful. The roots can grow up into your cheek bone too. Mine the dentist said was growing into places they should not have been and it was very painful.
Since I did not have insurance at the time I had the top ones pulled out, since they were the cause of the pain.
Mouth (head) pain is the most painful, I think......

the pain when they're just coming in shouldn't be THAT bad. The pain is getting them out. Although, that really wasnt' too bad either. Then again, the doctor told me that mine were probably the best wisdom teeth removal he'd ever seen. Just remember that when you get them out, watch out for vicodin. It's more addictive than they tell you >=O

If they have room and actually come through, then you are ok. It hurts, but it isn't that bad. All of mine came in with no problem - I still have two of them (had the other 2 pulled when they started bothering).
If they WON'T come though and are impacted, I believe that is when they can be very painful. This isn't an overnight occurance though - have your dentist take a look.

Wisdom teeth hurt when they are impacted or not enough room to come in correctly, then come in crooked. If they come in like supposed to, no pain, no problem. Go to the dentist and have them check it out.

I had all four wisdom teeth grow at the same time. The pain I had from the teeth growing was more painful that taking them out. My mouth was sore because I had all four taken out at the same time.
